Retail businesses are built upon excellence in customer service, and it’s no secret companies including CVS spend time and money on instilling this belief in their employees when they are first hired. Without proper customer service, customers are not likely to return, and without repeat customers, businesses are dead in the water.

If you are to get hired at CVS, it’s a great idea to start thinking you will be able to offer the greatest customer service possible; this way, when the time comes during your interview, you can convey that feeling sincerely to the person conducting your interview if necessary.

If you think about it, what would you think about just one CVS store close to your home with a nasty employee with a horrible attitude working there? Would you frequent that specific store, or would you just travel 2 miles further on down the road to not have to deal with that person upon check-out? Most people would take the trip and avoid that person altogether, even if they had to waste an extra .50 cents in gasoline!

In short, one person can single-handedly ruin a store’s reputation if the problem isn’t dealt with by administrative staff.

Learn how to get more job offers from Job.com. Click Here to get expert job searching advice and access to 1000s of local jobs.

So, be courteous to customers, and always try to offer a sincere, friendly smile. Be proactive in helping customers with their needs, even if you only had 5 hours of sleep last night; one needless, negative episode where you fail to help a customer can haunt you in management’s eyes for a long time.

Contrary to popular belief, the customer really is not always right, but as a CVS employee, or an employee anywhere, you should stay above the fray and be the better person.

A simple “I’m sorry you couldn’t find what you were looking for,” or “Thanks for informing me about (something negative and not to their liking),” can go a long way in pleasing the customer and turning a sour situation into a manageable one. Be humble. Of course you’ll run into an idiot every now and then but don’t take it personal, and accept the fact that you are not going to change that person.
